spark360 Goes Under the Hood at Gold Auto Parts Recyclers

Dallas, TX (PRWEB) August 26, 2010

Where others might see junked, used scrap metal, Gold Auto Parts Recyclers sees an opportunity to build a shiny new economic engine that can save money for cost-conscious car owners in a challenging economy - and help clean up the environment at the same time. Gold does this by buying scrap auto metal from independent dealers, salvaging AC compressors and remanufacturing them into high-quality, reusable parts.

spark360 shows off every step of that process in its new business profile, now available for viewing at http://www.spark360.tv.

Gold president/managing partner Jerry Amman tells spark360 host Renay San Miguel that the Great Recession became a great chance to offer customers a less expensive option for AC compressors via Gold's website, http://www.goldpartsonline.com. "What made that happen was this downturn in the economy. It really helped us. When the economy went down, we had the ability to talk to our employees and say, 'This is now the time to take this thing to this market - the internet, the end user, one customer at a time.'"

That decision put Gold squarely in the middle of a potentially lucrative market: an estimated $ 344 million in annual revenues for automotive air conditioning compressors. Analysts expect 3.2 million compressors to be sold this year; of that number, 1.3 million will be remanufactured compressors. With the average age of a car on U.S. roads growing from seven to ten years, owners are looking for less expensive ways to extend the lives of their autos.

Yet it's not just the online car parts shopper who benefits from Gold's business model. The spark360 cameras take viewers inside the company's massive East Dallas warehouse where Gold's first customers - private scrap dealers - drop off engine blocks and other material gathered from installers, garages and body shops. Gold buys the raw inventory and then goes about separating the parts they can refurbish for resale from scrap. Yet everything that comes through Gold's doors ends up being recycled - even leftover oil and oil cleaner.

A strong team of quality-control experts - some of whom have been associated with Gold's team members for 20 years - ensure that the refurbished AC compressors can stack up against brand-new auto parts. It's why Gold provides a two-year warranty for its products remanufactured in the U.S., while competitors usually offer one-year guarantees for parts that are recycled in Asia, said Gold partner/chief financial officer Lane Weitz.

"Quality is the key. If the part is no good, it doesn't matter how cheap it was, your customer is not going to be happy," Weitz said. "When you're selling this type of material, it's being able to bring the product to the end consumer who needs their part to fix the air conditioning in their car when it's 103 degrees out. And being able to offer the quality product at a fair price - with a warranty - that's really what our remanufacturing operation is all about."

Weitz is interviewed at Gold's warehouse, where viewers can see how his employees use a mix of low-tech and high-tech methods to disassemble, clean and remanufacture the compressors. Amman talks to San Miguel in the spark360 virtual studio, where he recalls how he started his company. "I was a young guy who really didn't mind hard work, and there were a lot of these auto parts laying around in different areas where I had been," Amman said. "It just made it interesting to be able to turn something that was totally junk or worthless to one guy into something that was worth something to another man."

Senior Producer Steven Swaim added, "The energy and enthusiasm that emanate from these guys is contagious! It is so rewarding to work with people that truly have a passion for what they do. Gold Auto Parts Recyclers certainly have that passion."

"Gold has found a profitable niche in providing high-quality auto parts out of recycled products," San Miguel said. "There's a valuable ecosystem surrounding Gold's business model. They pay the independent scrap dealers for their inventory, get the junked parts out of the environment through recycling, and then offer an inexpensive option for DIY-focused car owners whose autos need new parts. Our viewers will enjoy watching every step of that process on spark360."
